SUMMARY:Carnegie Building Open House Tour
DESCRIPTION:Following the strong storm that damaged the Courthouse tower on June 29\, 2012\, County offices housed in the Courthouse had to be evacuated. Ultimately\, the Carnegie Building\, the former site of the Logan County District Library\, at the southeast corner of Main Street and Sandusky Avenue\, was selected as the best location to house most of the Courthouse offices while the Courthouse tower was being rebuilt. The County's insurance company\, County Risk Sharing Authority (CORSA)\, reimbursed the County for most of the costs to make the Carnegie Building suitable for Court and Clerk of Court functions\, including bringing the heating\, ventilation and air conditioning systems up to current commercial building code. During the renovation of the Carnegie Building\, the building's original plaster ceilings and stained glass windows were also restored.\n\n\n\nCommissioner Dustin Wickersham said\, "We wanted everyone to have an opportunity to see the restoration of the Carnegie Building. It is a great example of how something bad like the June storm can produce something good\, like this restoration."\n\n\n\nCommissioner Tony Core added\, "Those that remember the Carnegie Library in its hey day will be impressed to see the ceilings and windows that haven't been seen in nearly 40 years."\n\n\n\nThe original Bellefontaine Carnegie Library was built in 1905 with a $14\,000 grant from the Carnegie Corporation\, along with local funds. In 1977\, the east wing was added to the building. In 1994\, the County took ownership of the building when the Logan County District Library built the Knowlton Library at 220 N. Main Street.
