The Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, the Indian Lake State Park and Indian Lake Development Corporation (ILDC) host the annual Maple Syrup Festival each year on the third weekend in March at the State Park Campground. The festival includes a wagon ride through the park to the tapping area for a tutorial on how maple syrup is extracted from the tree. Then, it is on to the sugar shack for a demonstration of the process by which sap is trans formed into maple syrup. Buckets of sap are poured into the evaporator and brought to seven degrees above the boiling point, at which time water escapes, leaving the sweet maple syrup in its purest form.
While at the festival, the Chamber serves a pancake and sausage breakfast in the commissary at the State Park Campground. You can also purchase pure maple syrup from the ILDC which will have a booth in the commissary. Call the Chamber at 937-843-5392 for more information or if you would like to work the Pancake Breakfast.
